Most of our greyhounds start their new life at our founder’s property west of Rockhampton — but we can only hold 6 hounds at a time. That’s why fostering is absolutely vital. Every time a greyhound moves into a foster home, it frees up space for another hound to leave the racing system and start their journey to a forever family.

Right now, we have over 40 greyhounds waiting for their chance to come in. By fostering, you’re not just helping one dog — you’re opening the door for the next one, too.

We’re looking for foster carers right across South East Queensland — from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast and Rockhampton and surrounding areas. This gives our greyhounds the very best chance at finding their forever homes, meeting potential adopters, and learning all the joys of pet life.

Fostering truly changes everything for these dogs — and for the next greyhound waiting to come through our gates.

Dutton

Date of Birth: 24th May 2022
Sex: Male
Colour: Brindle

Dutton is the longest, silliest noodle with the heart of a playful pup. He never made it to the track after breaking two toes as a youngster, but that hasn’t slowed his spirit. While he can be shy and a bit unsure in new situations — sometimes even freezing on walks when faced with a strange surface — a little patience, love, and gentle encouragement will help him find his confidence. Dutton will thrive in a home where his humans are around often to give him the reassurance (and snuggles) he needs.

FOSTER DUTTON

Foster

Hennie

Date of Birth: 12th December 2020
Sex: Female
Colour: Black

Our favourite thing about Hennie:
Hennie has a bananas coat — which is fitting, because she’s a little bananas herself! She’ll wait ever so patiently for you to put her coat on or take it off… and then break into joyful, crazy spins the moment it’s done.

FOSTER HENNIE

Why Open Your Home to Foster?

  • Gives a greyhound a second chance to enjoy life as a loved pet after their racing days.
  • A great option if you can’t adopt but still want to help.
  • You’ll see them blossom and enjoy the companionship that comes with fostering.
  • Helps you learn if a greyhound is the right fit for your family.
  • An incredibly rewarding experience — for you and for the hound you help.

Your Role as a Foster Carer

  • Foster carers are a vital part of our rehoming process, giving a greyhound a safe, temporary home while they transition from race dog to family pet.
  • Help them experience life in a house — from learning to walk on a lead to socialising with people and other pets.
  • Teach them the basics of pet life and prepare them for their forever home.
  • Occasionally assist with transporting your foster to events or vet appointments.
  • Provide secure fencing (at least 5ft) and shelter from the weather.
  • Most importantly, offer love, patience and kindness as they find their paws.
